Alumna Annie Fisher returns to speak to Sixth Form

For our March 10th Broadening Horizon’s session, we were delighted to welcome back former pupil Annie Fisher, Class of 1988.

Annie spoke to our Lower Sixth students about the features and benefits of Volunteering.

One of the pupils shared her thoughts after the talk:

‘Annie had some fantastic experiences of Volunteering that she shared with us.  For example, she told us about the power of saying ‘yes’ to opportunities as they arise and how that led to her taking a road trip across Europe in the 90’s, to provide much needed medical aid in Croatia, in the aftermath of the Yugoslav Wars.  It was there that Annie discovered her passion for helping others and providing support for those who need it most.  She described how she is currently supporting the homeless, her advocacy work and her involvement in the Ross Community Larder, a food bank in Herefordshire which seeks to help individuals and families who are facing hardship. Annie shared her experience dealing with people from all walks of life and supporting those suffering from debilitating drug addictions and mental health problems. What I found most interesting was how volunteering can help us develop skills such as communication, interpersonal skills and initiative, which are transferable to a range of careers’.

Huge thanks to Annie for taking the time to come back and speak to the students here. There was even time for a photograph outside the window to the Headmistresses' Study which has a 'smashing' story attached to it! (Clue - it involves a snowball!)
