There is another chance to see this fascinating insight into Old Badmintonians Unity and Shirin Spencer, daughters of eminent artist Stanley Spencer on BBC 4’s ‘Arena’ programme: ‘Stanley and his Daughters’. We were very sorry when we heard that artist Stanley Spencer’s daughter Unity had passed away in October last year. Unity and her sister Shirin were both at Badminton during the war, and Stanley, then engaged on producing art for the War Office, was one of many significant cultural figures, intellectuals and academics who were invited by BMB (charismatic Headmistress Miss Baker) to visit the school in its evacuation quarters at Lynmouth, North Devon.  The programme can be found on BBC iPlayer until September .
