Inspiring Evenings - Badminton School Lecture Series - January
Badminton School, Bristol
Thursday 05 Dec 2019
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Event description
"Small-Time Campaigner. On Plastics, Protest and the Gentle Arts of Persuasion" Tracey Logan, Old Badmintonian Class of 1977
Summary: It was never meant to be a campaign, just a forty-day Lenten plastics fast inspired in 2018 by David Attenborough’s Blue Planet series. But what started personal and temporary soon became public, lasting and life-affirming. Tracey Logan discusses the principles, strategies and skills she used to dramatically cut her plastic consumption and encourage others to do the same, via community meetings, local press and national media. Her message is one of empowerment, for: ‘when you think you’re too small to make a difference, remember the last night you spent in a room with a mosquito!’
Biog: Award-winning BBC radio correspondent Tracey Logan has reported from the tropics to the Arctic on cutting edge science and technology. Her recording of the ‘drip-drip-drip’ of melting permafrost ice brought the impact of global warming memorably to both BBC World Service listeners and the UN’s climate chief at the 2009 Copenhagen conference. She is currently studying for a PhD in Urban History, on Greater London’s growth and its effects on small outer-London towns and villages.
